Sustainable Packaging
and Materials

MINIMIZING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
THIS IS COMPLICATED. WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ IS ALSO COMPLICATED.

Our approach to sustainability is akin to our philosophy of blending: understanding and harnessing the richness of complexity. We believe that a truly sustainable supply chain requires deeper analysis than a mere examination of carbon footprint, investigating the lifecycle of our products, including materials, ingredients, and the resulting social and environmental impact.

Looking closely at our own practices, we identified waste reduction as an important area of improvement. We are committed to transitioning from linear packaging practices to circular practices, focusing on:

  1. optimizing the design of our products to reduce excess packaging
  2. ensuring that the packaging used can be repurposed or returned back to the earth
  3. the packaging safeholds the high quality of the tea and prevents food waste

With this goal in mind, we have been working with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to become part of the Circular Economy. Discover our interview with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation here.

Classic Teabags

BETTER THAN BIODEGRADABLE

DID YOU KNOW?

Anything, with time, is biodegradable. The term biodegradable is not a clear indicator of how sustainable a product is. That is why we focus on compostable products, which must decompose within a specific allotment of time without any trace.

PLANT-BASED SACHET

For optimal infusion and flavor, the inner sachets are made out of industry-standard renewable Polylactic Acid (PLA). This material is 100% plant-based and derived from corn.

COMPOSTABLE ENVELOPES

When looking to make changes in our envelope packaging, we deeply examined innovative leaders in this field. NatureFlex, a backyard compostable renewable material, was selected to transition out our plastic packaging. Within the upcoming year this product will be introduced through our Classic Teabags, along with other lines. We are committed to not creating waste so the transition will occur once we have used all current inventory.

DID YOU KNOW?

Compared to an estimated 100 to 500 years for petroleum-based plastics, these envelopes will take only a few months to break down in your home compost.

After opening the envelope to enjoy your cup of tea, ensure you dispose of it properly. The sachet is industrial compostable, check with your local council to ensure you can put it in your municipality's food bin. The envelope is backyard compostable so it can break down either in your food waste bin or in your backyard/home compost.
